MOOD MAGIC
You want to set a mood of enthusiasm. How do you do that?
Try something. The next time you talk about the best play of the game, the find you made at the antique store, the trip you loved, a research breakthrough, your project getting funded, listen to yourself. Yes, really, listen.
What you will hear, is a rapid flow of words, lots of variety in volume and pitch of your voice, power words and words that paint pictures. You'll also hear a number of "do you remember when"s, and, a lot of names of people involved.
And, look at yourself. You don't need a mirror to see that you are leaning forward to make a point, and, gesturing broadly with your arms, and, (at least until you started looking at yourself) you were zeroing in on your listener's eyes to make sure he or she was following what you were talking about.
NOW, you know how to set a mood of enthusiasm.
But, don't stop there. The best motivational speakers grab their listeners' hearts and minds by alternating moods. Pride, joy, poignancy, a bit of fear, humor/humour, positive news, nostalgia and competitiveness should all be a part of your mood mural.
